Bohol

Bohol & Panglao, The Philippines

For nature and adventure lovers, Bohol is a beautiful natural island, covered with jungle-clad mountains, rice paddies and scattered with charming local villages. At its heart are the famous Chocolate Hills, a unique collection of hills so called because in the dry season they turn brown and resemble Hershey’s Kisses! Enjoy a day tour to see the smallest primates in the world – tarsiers, cute little creatures about the size of a squirrel with huge eyes, cruise down the river observing local life along its banks, see how rice is grown and walk among the chocolate hills. The more adventurous can even join an ATV tour among this unique scenery or ride a zip-line through the trees.

Best time to visit Bohol & Panglao

December to May is generally a lovely time to visit Bohol and Panglao, with drier weather for beach days, snorkelling and exploring the countryside. The earlier months are a little cooler, before temperatures rise towards April and May, when the Chocolate Hills often take on their famous brown colour. Rain becomes more frequent from June to November, keeping the landscape green, though showers are possible throughout the year.

Chocolate Hills & Tarsiers

Bohol’s countryside offers two encounters you won’t find on an ordinary beach holiday. Head inland to the Chocolate Hills, where hundreds of rounded limestone hills stretch across the landscape, turning from green to chocolate brown as their grass dries. A viewpoint near Carmen reveals their extraordinary scale. Combine your visit with the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella, where guides help you spot these tiny, wide-eyed primates among the foliage. They’re nocturnal and sensitive to disturbance, so quiet observation is part of the experience. We recommend a guided countryside excursion from Panglao to bring the island’s scenery and wildlife together.
