Veracruz highlights

Xalapa

The capital city of Veracruz state and a vibrant cultural institution sat in the lush highlands. It’s worth exploring the Anthropology Museum exhibiting pre-Hispanic artifacts including the famed Olmec heads and soaking in the lively arts scene giving any visitor a brilliant blend of modern energy with historical charm. Colourful streets, storied architecture, bustling markets, and traditional music scene are all waiting. From Xalapa, venture further into the coffee region and explore farms and local cafes in Coatepec and Xico.

Best time to travel to Veracruz

Veracruz enjoys a tropical climate year-round where temperatures during the day hardly drop below 25oC. The dry season runs from December to April, and you’ll be greeted with near uninterrupted sunshine with the odd passing shower.

Towards the end of the dry season, around May, the humidity and temperature start to rise and between July and September temperatures of 30oC can be experienced. June to November is the official Caribbean hurricane season and while Veracruz dodges many of the hurricanes, storms (though rarely destructive) are not uncommon. The silver lining? Turtle nesting season is here, and you can witness these majestic creatures visiting the coastline to lay their eggs.
