Cambodia - Temples & Island Retreat
9 nights from £3,995pp
Cambodia Temples & Beach
A gentle adventure through Cambodia, pairing the ancient temples of Angkor with the powder-soft sands of Koh Rong.
This itinerary is perfect for couples or honeymooners looking to combine cultural discovery with a touch of barefoot luxury. Start with a few days in Siem Reap, exploring Angkor’s most iconic temples alongside lesser-known gems, with time to unwind at your boutique hotel or explore the town’s hidden corners. Then fly south to Koh Rong, where tropical days unfold at The Royal Sands – a peaceful beach retreat that’s all about switching off and slowing down.
Choose between staying in the heart of town at Shinta Mani Angkor, a chic and stylish boutique base, or upgrading to Zannier Phum Baitang, a tranquil collection of stilted villas set among rice paddies just outside Siem Reap.
Your Journey
Day 1 – Siem Reap
You’ll be met on arrival and transferred by private car to your hotel. Settle in, take a dip in the pool or head out for a gentle walk around Siem Reap’s vibrant night markets and buzzing street cafés.
Stay: Shinta Mani Angkor – Bayon Room including breakfast
Upgrade option: Zannier Phum Baitang – Terrace Villa
Accommodation - 1 Night
Day 2 – Kbal Spean, Banteay Srei
This morning, venture into the jungle-clad hills north of Angkor to explore Kbal Spean, where ancient Hindu carvings lie hidden along a sacred riverbed. It’s a gentle, shady walk through the forest and a peaceful place to begin your temple journey. Afterwards, visit the intricately carved pink sandstone temple of Banteay Srei, considered a jewel of Khmer art. Return to your hotel for a restful afternoon.
There’s plenty of time to relax around the pool, or if you feel like exploring, you could visit Apopo Hero Rats, where trained African rats help detect unexploded landmines, or stop by Satcha, a creative hub supporting Cambodian artisans.
Stay: Shinta Mani Angkor – Bayon Room including breakfast
Upgrade option: Zannier Phum Baitang – Terrace Villa
Day 3 – Rolous Temples & Kompong Pluk
Explore Angkor’s quieter corners by e-mountain bike, cycling through shaded trails and village roads. Visit the jungle-wrapped ruins of Ta Prohm, pass the stepped pyramid of Takeo, and ride along the walls of Angkor Thom.
Pause to explore temples like Preah Palilay and Bayon, with its famous stone faces. End the morning with a traditional Khmer lunch and foot massage at Sala Kdei, a peaceful wooden house beside the royal bathing pool of Sra Srang.
The afternoon is yours to unwind, and in the evening we recommend a visit to the Phare Circus, a contemporary performance of acrobatics, dance and storytelling that supports local youth.
Stay: Shinta Mani Angkor – Bayon Room including breakfast
Upgrade option: Zannier Phum Baitang – Terrace Villa
Day 4 – Hidden Trails of Angkor
An early start today for sunrise at Angkor Wat – a spectacular moment as the temple's spires silhouette against the morning sky. Afterwards, explore the temple's intricate carvings and grand central towers before heading back to your hotel for a late breakfast.
Later, cruise along the Tonlé Sap River to Kampong Phluk, a stilted village where homes sit high above the water. Depending on the season, float through the nearby flooded forest by traditional canoe. Spend the rest of the day relaxing or exploring at your own pace.
Stay: Shinta Mani Angkor – Bayon Room including breakfast
Upgrade option: Zannier Phum Baitang – Terrace Villa
Day 5 – Angkor Wat & Southern Beaches
After breakfast, fly south to the Cambodian coast and transfer by speedboat to Koh Rong, a peaceful island paradise with some of the softest sand and clearest sea in Asia.
Your final days are all about relaxation at The Royal Sands Koh Rong, a barefoot-luxury resort tucked along a dazzling private beach. Villas are spacious and serene, with indoor-outdoor living, soft neutral tones, and private pools that open onto the sea.
There are two beachfront restaurants serving fresh seafood and Khmer dishes, a serene infinity pool, and a beautiful spa with open-air treatment salas. You can snorkel, paddleboard, hike, or simply wander along the beach and do absolutely nothing at all. In the evening, the ocean often lights up with bioluminescent plankton, and stargazing from your deck is pure magic.
Stay: The Royal Sands Koh Rong – Oceanview Pool Villa, including breakfast
Royal Sands is just one of the beautiful island resorts off the coast of Cambodia, you could also consider Six Senses Krabey or Song Saa. Ask one of our team for a quote tailored to your preference.

The currency is the Cambodian riel.
There are no direct flights from the UK to Cambodia but it’s still only a simple one-stop route. It’s roughly 12 hours to a major Asian city such as Bangkok, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, before a connecting two-hour flight to either Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville.
The time difference is GMT +7 hours.
Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Polio and Tetanus-Diptheria vaccinations are currently recommended. There’s a risk of the Zika virus, while Malaria is a risk around Angkor Wat and Tonle Sap lake. If you’re entering Cambodia from a Yellow Fever zone, possession of a valid Yellow Fever inoculation certificate is required but for any current travel health advice, you should seek guidance from your GP at least four to six weeks prior to travel.
