Flores and Komodo Islands, Indonesia
An extension to Komodo is well worth the journey for untouched islands, wonderful snorkelling and diving and of course seeing the magnificent Komodo dragons. Access is via a direct flight from Bali to Labuan Bajo on the island of Flores, where on arrival you will be met and transferred either to a coastal resort, from which you can take a day cruise to the islands, or our preferred experience is a two or three night live aboard yacht.
The charm of these islands lies in the undeveloped land, void of even a port with passengers taken only by small boats to the island’s only village. On your cruise you’ll stop of on remote beaches, see contrasting landscapes, and snorkel on pristine reefs. On Komodo Island itself it is estimated that there are over 2,000 dragons, as well as a variety of other wildlife such as wild boar, deer and buffalo. Once on the island you will walk to the best places to spot Komodo dragons in their natural habitat – don’t worry you don’t get too close!
Best time to visit Flores & Komodo Islands
April to October is a lovely time to explore Flores and the Komodo Islands, with generally drier weather for sailing, snorkelling and walks ashore. We particularly love April to June, when the hills retain their greenery, before turning golden as the dry season progresses. September and October are also rewarding months for a cruise. The wetter season usually arrives from November to March, when boat journeys and outdoor excursions need more flexibility.

We love exploring these islands by boat, waking to a different bay and heading ashore straight from your floating home. Choose a private yacht for a journey tailored to your group, or reserve a cabin on a shared cruise for the pleasure of travelling with others. Options range from traditional wooden phinisi boats with comfortable en-suite cabins to luxurious yachts with exceptional food and service. We recommend at least three nights, with longer voyages allowing time to venture further. Boats are limited, so planning early gives you the widest choice.
Sudamala Seraya
Sudamala is a charming rustic hideaway on Seraya Kecil Island, one of the northern most islands of the Komodo National Park. It’s just a 20-minute speedboat from Labuan Bajo before arriving in paradise – the beach here is pristine and picture perfect with crystal waters and vibrant underwater life for exceptional snorkelling straight off the shore. This is not polished luxury by any stretch of the imagination but is a blissful retreat for those who value escapism over gold taps.
Komodo Island Cruise
One of the best ways to explore the spectacular Komodo Islands is by yacht. There is so much more to these islands than dragons - you’ll stop of on remote beaches, see contrasting landscapes, and snorkel on pristine reefs. We’d recommend at least three nights to see the best of the islands at a leisurely pace and most luxury yachts will insist on a minimum of three nights or more. We work with many different boat operators, catering to different budgets, and can also offer shared cabin cruises which is a wonderful way of exploring the islands, sharing your experiences with others.
