Luxury holidays in Mallorca
Mallorca is an island of remarkable variety, where hidden coves, mountain villages and clear Mediterranean water sit alongside a thriving food, wine and creative scene. In the north-west, the UNESCO-listed Serra de Tramuntana rises dramatically from the coast, with hiking trails, cycling routes and winding roads linking villages such as Deià, Valldemossa and Sóller. Deià remains a creative favourite, with stone houses, galleries and excellent restaurants overlooking the sea, while Sóller is surrounded by citrus groves and connected to Palma by its historic wooden train. Beyond the mountains, quiet bays and small beaches reward those willing to explore. Mallorca’s rural traditions are thriving too, with local producers, winemakers, chefs and artisans giving renewed energy to the island’s food and craft culture. Just a short flight from the UK, it works equally well for a long weekend or a slower week of exploring.
Where to stay in Mallorca
La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel
One of Mallorca’s most renowned and romantic hotels, La Residencia sits in the heart of the artists’ village of Deia, amidst the towering UNESCO World Heritage listed Serra de Tramuntana mountain range on the island’s north-west coast. Set in 12 acres of ancient olive and citrus groves on a hilltop, the mountain and sea views are utterly awe-inspiring! Bought by Sir Richard Branson in 1987 and now owned by Belmond, the hotel is every bit as beautiful as it first looks.
Best time to visit Mallorca
Mallorca is best visited from April to October, with spring and autumn especially rewarding for exploring beyond the beach. April, May, September and October bring warm days, quieter roads and excellent conditions for hiking and cycling in the Serra de Tramuntana.
July and August are the hottest and busiest months, with warm seas and long sunny days ideal for beaches and boat trips. September is a particular favourite, combining balmy water with a more relaxed pace. Winter is quieter and cooler, but Palma and the mountain villages still make appealing escapes for walking, food and local culture.

Beyond the beach
Mallorca is made for active days, from hiking and cycling through the Serra de Tramuntana to swimming in hidden coves, exploring mountain villages and discovering the island well beyond the beach.
