Luxury Thailand Holidays
Thailand brings together many of the experiences people travel to Southeast Asia for: golden temples, exceptional food, tropical islands, rainforest and a warmth that has long earned it the nickname ‘Land of Smiles’. Yet despite its popularity, there are still plenty of places that feel wonderfully individual.
Bangkok is the natural starting point, where gilded temples, street markets and riverside neighbourhoods sit beneath a modern skyline. Further north, Chiang Mai combines Lanna culture, ornate temples and brilliant food with mountain landscapes and countryside beyond the city.
Then there are the islands. Koh Yao Noi looks across the limestone peaks of Phang Nga Bay, Koh Lanta pairs relaxed beaches with excellent diving, Koh Samui brings tropical ease and beautiful hotels, while Krabi’s towering limestone cliffs create one of Thailand’s most recognisable coastal landscapes. The real joy is choosing the right combination: city and culture, jungle and mountains, then an island that suits exactly how you like to travel.

Thailand’s weather varies significantly by region, so choosing the right coast matters. Bangkok, Chiang Mai and northern Thailand are generally most comfortable from November to February, before temperatures rise sharply from March. On the Andaman coast, including Phuket, Krabi and Koh Lanta, November to March usually brings the driest beach weather, with the wetter season running roughly May to October.
The Gulf coast follows a different pattern: Koh Samui is particularly appealing from late January through spring and can also work well in July and August. This regional variation means Thailand can offer good beach conditions at different times of year, depending on where you travel.

Thailand highlights
Where to stay in Thailand
Thailand is a fantastic destination to hop around for a multi-centre holiday, mixing the beach, jungle-covered north and city bustle of Bangkok in one incredible adventure. There is rich variety in the places you can stay, too, from stylish sanctuaries in the middle of the capital to rainforest boutiques pitched in the heart of some of Thailand's most spectacular landscapes. After all those thrills, you'll want somewhere to relax for a few days and Thailand's islands harbour an abundance of idyllic beach boltholes for you to escape to.
Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas
With a secluded location in the north of the island we love the very tranquil and utterly romantic aura that pervades the Anantara Phuket Villas – if you are looking to avoid Phuket’s sometimes loud, brash, busy persona then this may just be the place for you.
Elephant Hills – The Bush Camp, Chiang Mai
Following the success of their acclaimed camp in Khao Sok National Park, the first luxury tented camp of its kind in Thailand, we are delighted that the Elephant Hills team have created a similar experience in beautiful countryside on the banks of the Mae Ping River just outside Chiang Mai.
Siam Kempinski
Siam Kempinski couldn’t be better located for those who like to be ‘in the thick of it’. Situated in the heart of downtown Bangkok, it's adjacent to the Siam Paragon mall, through which the Siam BTS Skytrain is accessible in a couple of minutes’ walk.
Banyan Tree Krabi
If Banyan Tree Krabi only had a solitary trump card to play, it would be this: location, location, location. Wedged between the buttermilk-hued Tubkaak beach and the jungle-wrapped hills of Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park, it can lay claim to one of Krabi's most idyllic corners.
Anantara Rasananda
Arrival is via a 40 minute speedboat dash from Koh Samui and your boat arrives on the beach, so be prepared to ditch the shoes and dabble your toes – this is definitely barefoot territory. A stunning, white sand beach fringed by the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Thailand greets your arrival, Koh Phangan remains that unspoilt, rustic and untouched island from your travelling days; this is the real Thailand, how Thailand used to be. Contemporary style pool villas blend into the landscape with Pool Suites located on the second floor, offering huge terraces and outdoor plunge pools.
The Slate
Located on the island of Phuket, just ten minutes from the airport, the award-winning The Slate is just minutes from the white sands of Nai Yang Beach. Designed by Bensley Design Studios and inspired by Phuket’s tin mining past, The Slate's architecture and décor combines mining themes with Thai chic giving the resort a truly unique, quirky and fun feel.
Tamarind Village
Located in the heart of Chiang Mai, Thailand’s cultural hub, Tamarind Village is a charming and unique Lanna-style boutique property. Found at the end of an inviting bamboo lined driveway just off one of the main streets that runs through the walled old town of the city, the resort is typically northern Thai architecturally set around a series of garden courtyards. One of the courtyards is home to a 200-year-old Tamarind tree from which the resort takes its name.
Pimalai Resort & Spa
Koh Lanta is a very peaceful place, a natural island with a quiet charm that is thankfully still largely unspoiled with beautiful beaches and soaring emerald green mountains but it is more than this that makes Pimalai so extraordinary. We think it’s the luxury of somewhere very special that manages to be very unique and exclusive but without any of the fuss. Overlooking beautiful Kantiang Bay and surrounded by native forest, this well laid out and low-rise resort sits absolute beachfront and then clambers into the hills behind. Access to the resort is from the mainland jetty by launch – all adding to the sense of exclusivity.
Rayavadee
If your expectation of a beach escape in Thailand involves giant sun-kissed limestone karsts rising majestically from the ocean and white sand beaches encircling jungle clad hillsides, then Rayavadee might just be the place for you. Although theoretically located on the mainland, the resort is dotted across a beautiful peninsula and only accessible by boat. This is a truly breathtaking property in a dazzling location with a wonderful sense of traditional Thailand.
Paradee
Just a two hour drive and short ferry ride from Bangkok, Paradee is located on the island of Koh Samed, an ideal choice for those who prefer not to take an additional flight down to one of the islands in the south of Thailand. You really don’t need to fly to find paradise - Koh Samed is just as beautiful, if not more, as it is much less developed but still boasts idyllic beaches and jungle clad national parks. Guests can enjoy the beautiful setting amongst lush, tropical jungle and white sand beaches, relaxing or taking advantage of the excellent snorkelling and diving in the area.
Riva Surya
Riva Surya has the best of Bangkok's chaos and calm on its doorstep, fronting the sleepy Chao Phraya River but also being only a few minutes' walk away from the buzzing Khao San Road, where life seems to whizz by at a hundred miles an hour.
The Sarojin
This truly elegant, Thai-style resort is a secluded tropical retreat, offering undisturbed privacy and a very warm welcome on a pristine swathe of beach. Managing to offer the best of both worlds, this secluded resort is perfect for a relaxing, tropical beach escape but also incredibly well located for exploration if you prefer to be just a little more active.
Banyan Tree Samui
There are many beachfront, luxury resorts on Koh Samui, and indeed in Thailand, but every now and again you come across one which seems to epitomise everything you would expect from a fabulous retreat in the ‘land of smiles’. The Banyan Tree Samui is just such a place. Set into the hillside, the resort commands exceptional views over the sapphire waters of Lamai Bay which lap the pristine white sands of the beach below.
Devasom, Khao Lak
Devasom is an elegant and contemporary Thai-style property located on a beautiful, unspoilt stretch of beach, close to the town of Khao Lak. Built on the edge of a river inlet and lagoon, you are surrounded by nature and are never far from a sea or river view. The two-tier pool is located immediately behind the beach, perfect for relaxing on your sun lounger and looking out to sea. For families there is a smaller toddler pool and kid clubs and for the grownups a spa with a choice of Thai treatments.
137 Pillars House
The charming boutique 137 Pillars House was originally an old colonial house, built in the early 1800’s, designated to foreigners by the Siam Government, and it was built around the construction of 137 pillars, hence the name. Converted into a hotel in 2012 the design is spectacular, fully capturing the elegance of by-gone days, but with a contemporary finish. Located close the banks of the Mai Ping river it is just a short taxi ride from the centre of Chiang Mai and the lively night markets.
Layana Resort & Spa
This lovely, adults-only resort (no children under 12) spills throughout beautiful gardens onto vast swathe of white sand beach on the island of Koh Lanta. Set within the Mu Koh Lanta National Park – a breath-taking marine archipelago that is home to luxuriant tropical rainforests and an underwater world splashed rainbow-bright with colourful coral and a hugely rich diversity of marine creatures.
The Peninsula Bangkok
One of Bangkok’s best known hotels, The Peninsula's reputation for the finest quality and excellent service is consistently well-deserved. Located on the banks of the Chao Praya river, it enjoys uninterrupted views across the lifeline of this busy city.
The Surin
Overlooking one of the best beaches in Thailand, with a backdrop of rolling jungle-clad hills, this charming resort is as distinctive in its setting as it is in its design. The tranquil and secluded white sand of Pansea Bay, washed by the clear warm turquoise water of the Andaman Sea, is the stuff of dreams… whilst the architecturally designed cottages and suites of The Surin are some of the most sought after on Phuket!
Six Senses Yao Noi
There is a distinct feel of the ‘Jungle Book’ meets ‘Castaway’ about Six Senses Yao Noi and if Mowgli was all grown-up, and looking for a luxurious, sensuous retreat, this is most definitely where he would come! Resting in the ocean halfway between Phuket and Krabi, amongst the iconic limestone shards of Phang Nga Bay, getting there is all part of the experience. It’s just a 45 minute boat transfer from Phuket or 20 minutes by speedboat from Krabi. The views are quite simply ‘larger than life’ and it is one of the most idyllic retreats we have ever found.
Anantara Chiang Mai Resort
Simply one of Northern Thailand’s most elegant, stylish and luxurious hotels, the Anantara Chiang Mai combines the facilities of a luxury hotel with a highly convenient location, just a five minute walk from the famous Night Market. The site itself was home to the former British Consulate and thus enjoys one of Chiang Mai’s prime locations, on the banks of the Mae Ping River. The main Consulate building dates back to the 1920’s and has been integrated into the hotel – it is now the location of the stylish restaurant, whose leather chairs and colonial style afternoon tea are designed to recreate the British club feel.
Six Senses Samui
It feels like a million miles from anywhere, peaceful and secluded with some of the most jaw-dropping views over the Gulf of Siam we have seen. In true Six Senses style it has a real feel of rustic luxe but there is absolutely no compromise on the luxury element, the blend is just perfect. 66 wooden-clad villas are scattered across a gentle hillside and there is a wonderfully relaxed ambience about the place. Each villa is perfectly in tune with its surroundings, utterly private and all with outstanding views.

City. Culture. Coast.
Start among Bangkok’s temples and street food, head north for Chiang Mai’s culture and mountain landscapes, then finish barefoot on an island chosen for the season. Thailand is at its best when you combine all three.

What Our Travellers Say
“As enthusiastic retirees with a serious case of wanderlust, my wife and I now travel abroad at least four times a year. We'd been subscribed to The Turquoise Holiday Company mailing list for years, but it wasn't until we spotted a special offer for Thailand in November 2019 that we finally booked our first holiday with them.Interestingly, a few months earlier, while waiting for a flight to the Maldives in June 2019, we noticed another couple travelling with a Turquoise travel bag. At the time, we thought little of it, but looking back, it was perhaps an early sign that we were about to discover a travel company that would become our go-to specialist for luxury holidays. Our first experience with Turquoise was excellent and gave us the confidence to book a Maldives holiday for June 2020. Then, of course, COVID struck and brought the travel industry to a standstill. What impressed us most was the way Turquoise handled an incredibly difficult situation. Rather than leaving us in limbo, they worked tirelessly to rearrange our holiday multiple times, adapting to constantly changing restrictions and circumstances. Eventually, in November 2020, despite flying with a different airline and staying at a different hotel than originally planned, we were able to enjoy a much-needed Maldives escape when many other travel plans around the world had simply been cancelled altogether. That experience cemented our trust in The Turquoise Holiday Company. Since then, we have booked many holidays through them and now use them for the vast majority of our trips abroad. What consistently sets Turquoise apart is the quality of its people. Every member of staff we have dealt with has been knowledgeable, professional, friendly and exceptionally thorough. Their expertise, attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile give us complete confidence that every aspect of our holiday is being carefully managed. In an age where genuine customer service can be hard to find, The Turquoise Holiday Company continues to deliver it in abundance. We would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone looking for a travel agent that combines expert knowledge, outstanding customer care and absolute professionalism. They have played a major part in some of our most memorable travel experiences, and we look forward to booking many more adventures with them in the years ahead.”
“Right from first contact, Bethany & colleagues were great. Bethany adjusted the holiday offered several times to get it just how we wanted it, & it was everything she said it would be. We went to Coco Bodu Hithi & it was amazing, I thoroughly recommend it. Turquoise have a great app which was really useful & they were there for us all along the way, even sending me updates on flights. I recommend them 100%.”
“Everything was so efficient from our very first contact. We are not seasoned travellers so the support/help/advice we received from Lucy all the way through was so reassuring. Even the daftest question was never too much trouble. Looking forward to booking again for 2028 - we wouldn’t dream of looking forward alternative travel agents. Thank you so much 🥰”
“I am so thankful we used Turquoise Holidays! From start to finish they were exceptional. A shout out to Martha who designed and organised our honeymoon for us - she took the stress out of planning, understood the vision and put together our dream holiday. She was a pleasure to work with and it was beyond anything we could have imagined. I can’t tell you how relieved we were to have all of our transport and transfers sorted the other side. Especially for a trip like ours with lots of flights and travel, using Turquoise Holidays made it so much easier. We also used the concierge services to book activities and they were so helpful and kind. Will definitely use Turquoise again, I can’t wait for our next holiday!”
“Sophie was brilliant from start to finish. From the very first email she was professional but also had that friendly touch. Any amendments I wanted to our honeymoon plans she came back with the updated itinerary. Even after 5 iterations she was still incredible with the responses. I would highly recommend using turquoise travel and we will definitely be using them again”
“Amazing Family Holiday and just what we asked for! We wanted a resort and location that was approriate for small kids but had all the luxuries for adults, and Turquoise holidays provided a great service. Commincation was great and they took all the pain out of the small details and provided an excellent service and the value was outstanding!”
“Just got back from a fantastic Holiday in Mauritius with which I booked the Holiday with Turquoise Holidays. This is my first time I have booked with this company and I will have no hesitation in booking again, from start to finish the correspondence I had with Milly and the rest of the team at Turquoise as been outstanding. Thankyou Neil & Jane”
“Enjoyable trip to Canada.Jonty made excellent recommendations as always, hotels were great in every respect.Highly recommend Turquoise for their advice and insight into places and hotels at a very good price point. We have used many times in the past and will continue do use again in the future.”
“Mrs Stone organised all my flights details and extra help extremely well.”
“This was the best travel agent experience we have ever had. We went on a bespoke 5 week trip to Australia. Our agent, Stuart, designed a trip exactly matching our requirements and really listened to us when we described the brief. What came through strongly during the course of the trip was Turquoise’s ability to not just source the best properties/accommodation, but the best rooms in those properties. Likewise with the tours and activities that they organised — everything felt highly curated and considered. When any queries arose or we wanted to change the bugs, the team was super-responsive through the app. We will definitely use them again have recommended them to many friends.”
“We had a really good time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The blend of activity and adventures in Sri Lanka mixed with the relaxation and tranquility of the Maldives, worked extremely well and the itinerary put together by Turquoise was excellent.Overall we were very impressed with Sri Lanka and whilst hectic at times enjoyed our busy agenda. We found all the accommodation wonderful and food was plentiful and enjoyable. We were pleased to have climbed the two rocks to see the sunset/sunrise albeit a bit daunting when we realised the climbing challenge ahead.Special mention has to go to our driver/guide Mahesh who was excellent and really helped make our trip run smoothly. He was knowledgeable, practical and always prompt. In fact our only hiccup occurred when trying to leave the Notary House to fly to Male. We had booked a 4am alarm call, bags to be picked up at 4.20am and “breakfast to go” ready for 4.30am. Fortunately we had used our own phone alarms as we awoke to a completely silent hotel, no alarm call, no bags collected and no breakfast, and no driver. We did however just about hear a car hooting and on seeing some lights at the end of the long drive to the hotel set off and found Mahesh. However, the gates were padlocked shut and Mahesh was locked out and we were locked in! Fortunately Mahesh had a number for the hotel and after ringing several times, an apologetic staff member appeared and unlocked the gate and off we went. Phew !After making our plane we successfully arrived in Male and took the speedboat to Velassaru. We thought the island was impeccably well kept and had obviously been recently modernised in many areas. Our room - 205 - was perfectly positioned close to the Chill Bar, and ideal for drinking cocktails and watching the sunset, yet only a small walk from all other amenities including the buffet restaurant where we ate all our meals. We found the breakfast plentiful and varied but thought the offerings for dinner were less extensive than on other islands( maybe we were a bit spoilt at Six Senses last year ! ). We were also disappointed that given we were half board had we wished to use any of the other 3 à la carte restaurants for dinner then this was additionally chargeable albeit with a 30% discount. And yes, sadly the view from our villa of Thilafushi was certainly not ideal or romantic but overall we still agreed that Velassaru was a lovely island with everything you would expect from a trip to the Maldives.Overall we were very satisfied and would consider doing a similar trip again and definitely using Turquoise albeit I think we would allow for a longer journey from Male and take the seaplane even if that did eat into a bit more of our holiday time. Thanks again to Anthony for listening to our requirement and tailoring our trip to suit our needs.Steve ( and Cathy )”
“Always so helpful, professional and efficient, thank you once again!”
